OUR SUSSEX organic FARM

Work with Nature; Eat with Nature

We believe in producing high quality food - organic, sustainable, ethical, accountable.

That's why we farm organically. We do not use pesticides, herbicides or artificial fertilizer, artificial irrigation systems, grow lights or heating.

Our saffron is grown from certified organic corms and we are certified as organic with the Soil Association.

Organic &

Regenerative

At Sussex Saffron, we have made the commitment to use organic and regenerative farming techniques to play our part in regenerating, restoring and reinvigorating our little corner of Sussex.

We try to work with the land, not against it.

While our farm is only a small piece of the global puzzle, we hope through responsible agriculture to make our own positive contribution to increase biodiversity, carbon drawdown and protect our natural environment.

A Haven for Wildlife

Our organic saffron is grown in the High Weald of Sussex, a UK Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and our farm is no exception.

In the spring and summer, our fields are vibrant with a variety of local wildflowers such as Sussex orchids, betony, moon penny daisies, yellow and purple vetch, ragged robin, cuckoo flowers and bird’s foot trefoil (often known as granny’s toenails from the claw-like seed pods!)

Our ponds and ghyll are home to a variety of dragonflies and amphibians while the woodland shaws and meadows support many different kinds of butterflies such as red admirals, fritillaries, the bright orange comma, cabbage whites, meadow browns, ringlets and small coppers feeding on sorrel.

There are not many flowers still in bloom in October when the saffron comes into flower and we recognise that our crocus beds are an important source of nectar for our friendly pollinators.
